About the role
Herbal product developers carefully select ingredients based on their therapeutic properties, compatibility, and safety, considering the synergistic effects of combining different herbs. They also design the most suitable dosage forms for herbal products, considering factors like ease of use, bioavailability, and the target audience.
What you would do
- Select and combine herbs based on their therapeutic properties to formulate herbal products such as tinctures, capsules, salves, teas, and powders
- Consider synergistic effects of herb combinations and balance formulations for optimal efficacy and safety
- Identify and source high-quality herbal raw materials, ensuring authenticity, purity, and sustainability
- Establish relationships with suppliers and conduct quality control measures to maintain the integrity of ingredients
- Determine the most effective and suitable dosage forms for herbal products, taking into account factors like bioavailability, ease of use, and consumer preferences
- Optimize delivery methods for various herbal compounds to enhance their absorption and effectiveness
- Stay informed about regulatory requirements and compliance standards for herbal products
- Ensure that product formulations adhere to local and international regulations, including labeling, safety, and quality standards
- Stay abreast of research in herbal medicine, pharmacology, and related fields to inform product development
- Explore innovative delivery systems, technologies, and herbal combinations to enhance product efficacy and appeal
- Implement quality control measures throughout the product development process, from raw material selection to final product formulation
- Conduct stability testing, microbial testing, and other relevant tests to ensure product safety and efficacy
- Collaborate with herbalists, botanists, pharmacists, and other experts to leverage diverse perspectives in product development
- Seek input from professionals with expertise in specific therapeutic areas to create targeted herbal solutions
- Maintain detailed records of product formulations, ingredient specifications, and quality control processes
- Compile documentation required for regulatory submissions and product registration
What We Expect
- Bachelor's or equivalent advanced degree in herbalism, pharmacognosy or natural products chemistry
- In-depth understanding of herbal medicine, including the therapeutic properties of various herbs and their interactions
- Proficiency in herbal product formulation, dosage calculation, and knowledge of herbal extraction methods
- Familiarity with local and international regulations governing herbal products, including labeling requirements and safety standards
- Ability to conduct literature reviews, stay informed about the latest research, and integrate scientific findings into product development
- Understanding of quality control processes, including testing methods, stability testing, and good manufacturing practices (GMP)
- Creative thinking to develop innovative herbal formulations and products that address market needs
- Strong project management skills to oversee multiple product development initiatives simultaneously
